![]() Isaiah’s ministry in the Democratic Republic of the Congo provides vocational training to vulnerable children. Here, his students are learning to pour decorative bricks that are used at the school and also sold to help support this ministry. His past projects are 17-03, 19-11 and 23-08. |
Project: To help orphans and vulnerable children get into school and to stay in school, as well as helping them with vocational training. This project will provide funds to keep these children in the vocational education and training program, thereby keeping them from dropping out of school and reintegrating into gangs. Summary: There has been a long-standing problem in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) with former child soldiers becoming victims of sexual assault, forced recruitment by armed groups, exploitation by criminal gangs, shocks of violence, physical abuse, poverty, psychological trauma and hunger. When released or after escaping from armed groups, most former child soldiers never receive any support to reintegrate into their communities. Through education and vocational training provided by Isaiah’s ministry, children and young adults are able to become self-employed and improve their standards of living. This ministry recently lost its source of income to help these children. The short-term solution is for SIFAT to provide funds to keep the children in the education and training programs, rather than them having to go back out on the streets. Note: SIFAT does not normally rescue people in need. SIFAT is a development organization. To fund this stop-gap project, SIFAT received a commitment from Isaiah to not ask for additional funding for overhead ministry costs in the future. Isaiah needed time, due to the sudden and unanticipated loss of funding, to find alternative sources of income.
