Project Funded!

Project: To teach 35 women in the Jannot community agricultural skills to produce food for their families and to sell produce in markets to be able to feed their families and earn income for basic needs and to send their children to school. These 35 families came up to the mountains from Port-au-Prince, fleeing gang violence. This project also includes teaching eight women how to raise goats.

Summary:

Women were taught to raise sweet peppers, leek parsley, squash and citrus seedlings: orange, grapefruit and lemons. The goal was to improve the nutritional and economic life of their families. The organization teaching the women, Agricultural Community Alfa Teknik, works with poor people to train them in compost preparation, natural fertilizers, and effective growing techniques to enable them to grow food for their family and to sell on a sustainable basis. Purchased items included tools, water storage drums and plant seeds. Eight of the families were given goats in addition to learning agriculture skills and they were taught how to raise goats producing milk for their family and also to sell the milk.
