Project: To provide a dairy program that will generate income for women and will provide skills and employment for youth.

Summary:

The Jiinue Self Help Group is a registered community group located in Litein, Kenya, consisting of 24 women and 12 youth. The group seeks to improve household income, food security and economic empowerment among its members. This proposed project aims to establish a zero-grazing dairy farming enterprise with an initial four high-yield dairy cows. The project will be managed collectively by the women with support from the youth. The dairy unit will include a well-constructed zero-grazing shed, a fodder production area and proper systems for manure management and hygiene. The youth will support daily activities, such as feeding, milking, cleaning and record keeping, while the women will handle coordination, financial management and marketing of milk. Milk produced will be sold to local hotels within Litein. This initiative will create sustainable livelihoods, empower women economically, provide skills and employment for youth and strengthen the local community’s resilience. Overtime, income generated will be used to expand the herd and support group welfare activities, making the project self-sustaining.
